The creation of a Husk can sometimes occur when an inexperienced TRACE-sensitive user accidentally overspends their TRACE reserves, usually in a moment of desperation or high emotion. In such cases, the TRACE-sensitive individual, depleted and unstable, may unconsciously attempt to replenish their TRACE by drawing energy from those nearby — even from regular, non-TRACE-sensitive humans. A Husk is created under one of two conditions, both of which demonstrate the dire consequences of TRACE mismanagement:

• Reckless TRACE Use: Inexperienced or desperate TRACE users who overspend their energy reserves may cross an irreversible threshold, becoming Husked. The absence of formal training and understanding can lead TRACE sensitives to accidentally drain themselves completely, often when pushing past their limits in combat or survival situations.

• Unconscious TRACE Draining: When depleted, some TRACE sensitives may unconsciously reach out for nearby energy sources to replenish their TRACE, unknowingly siphoning energy from other beings — even regular humans. This unintentional draining leaves their victims weak and endangers the sensitive user by intensifying their instability. If the TRACE-sensitive fails to stabilize, this act can hasten their transformation into a Husk, emptying their TRACE reserves and severing their essence from any link to self.
