====== Shounen Tokens ====== **Shounen Tokens**, abbreviated as **STs**, are a limited resource that all players are capable of gaining. They are one-use tokens that can be optionally expended on most, barring some exceptions, forms of death in order to ignore it at a cost. Shounen Tokens serve to help give players control over their journey, allowing them to cheat death and live on to continue writing their story past when it would have otherwise ended - as the name implies, they represent your status as an established entity with more narrative weight than an everyday city dweller, whom are subject to twists of fate, moments of absurd luck, and going beyond ordinary limits. ==== Obtaining Shounen Tokens ==== Shounen Tokens are normally automatically gained at set intervals in a character's lifespan. These are at **80**, **160**, and **240** [[Roleplay Points]] respectively, to a maximum of **three** tokens across their entire existence; they will __not__ gain additional tokens at 320 RPP or higher. Bonus RPP from any source, such as the bonuses that new characters get to catch up to the server average, will also not count toward these benchmarks. They are gained solely from your natural point total. Short of very extenuating circumstances, you should plan around only ever having three tokens to make use of. ==== Using Shounen Tokens ==== Upon accepting a death or one otherwise being forced onto you, if you own any STs at the time, you will be given a pop-up asking if you'd like to spend one. In doing so, you'll //**consume a __SHOUNEN TOKEN!!__**//, sending a message in chat to nearby players that you've done so. As a trade-off for cheating death, if a player was the one responsible for the attempted kill, they will have the opportunity to inflict an injury of random severity, chosen automatically at the time the token was used. These can range from Major to Permanent injuries, and that player has free reign on whether to actually inflict it or not. At this point, unless it was roleplayed and agreed upon differently by those involved, you are generally considered to be **outside of the rest of the scene**. The rest of the scene goers should **assume that you actually died** one way or another, and you **should not be an active participant in further roleplay there**. You might sit around 'out of character' until the scene ends and everybody disperses, or perhaps your body rolled off a cliff to justify you leaving while they're all busy. Whatever the case, it sets the stage for you to show back up later, with reports of your death having been greatly exaggerated. Using Shounen Tokens is an __option__ given to you. You are under no obligation to use them, and are entirely free to accumulate all three and then refuse to spend them because you're satisfied with the death. More than anything else, they're there to act as a safety net, encourage proactivity without needing to worry about instantly losing your character, and prevent yourself from meeting an untimely end you're not satisfied with - if you can create engaging moments in the future using your near-death experience as fuel, then hit that button! ==== Where Shounen Tokens Aren't Applicable ==== While Shounen Tokens will protect you from the vast majority of deaths you might experience, they don't work on all things that might kill - or effectively kill - your character. Notably, exceeding your [[Cyberware]] limit and going into cybershock is the most common form of character loss that tokens won't save you from. While several others methods like this exist, like the [[Nightsworn]] **Exsanguinate** ability, most share the trait of being something you more likely than not have to opt into or allow to happen.
